“If music be the food of love, play on.”
(It’s not cheesy if it comes from Shakespeare, right?)
Ah, hell. It’s impossible to open a post about music without some dorky, overly-sentimental metaphor. What can I say? When I love something as much as I love the unmatched combination of voice and instrument, my words and I turn to mush. So mush on I shall.
According to psychcentral.com, “Listening to music reduces stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and emotional distress.” In other words, it works like a drug without any negative side effects, which is not news to you if you’ve experienced it for yourself.
So today, one day before we must return to work after a well-deserved three-day weekend, I leave you with a list of songs that brings me up when I’m down – that gets me high when I’m low – in hopes that it will do the same for you.
